Rono Dutta is a seasoned aviation industry executive with a distinguished career spanning over four decades. His extensive experience includes leadership roles in several major airlines, where he has consistently demonstrated his expertise in operation excellence, restructuring, strategic planning, and revenue management. Some of his notable experiences include:
- United Airlines: Rono dedicated twenty years to United Airlines, where he held various senior positions, including President, SVP Planning and Revenue Management, and SVP Maintenance. He also served as Chief Information Officer, VP Finance, and VP Cargo, and was a member of the United Board for four years.
- Air Sahara: As President of Air Sahara for four years, Rono was instrumental in the successful sale of the airline to Jet Airways at a premium.
- US Airways: Rono played a pivotal role in the restructuring of USAirways as it emerged from bankruptcy. He served as an advisor to the Alabama Pension Fund and was a member of the US Airways Board for one year.
- Air Canada: Rono contributed to the restructuring of Air Canada as it came out of bankruptcy, serving as an advisor to Cerebrus Capital. He undertook numerous follow-on consulting assignments over a period of two years.
- Hawaiian Airlines: Rono also assisted in the restructuring of Hawaiian Airlines as it emerged from bankruptcy, serving as an advisor to the Trustee. He completed numerous follow-on assignments over two years.
- IndiGo: In his most recent stint, Rono served as CEO of India’s largest airline – IndiGo for four years and was a member of the Board, where he played a key role in the airline’s growth and success
Rono holds an MBA from the prestigious Harvard Business School, complemented by a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur.
